NCDevCon 2015 Session-I Can't Use Your Website

I Can't Use Your Website

We devote so much time to making our sites and web apps usable for what we deem to be the "typical" user - yet often we end up ignoring an entire subset of potential clients, customers, or subscribers by not taking the time to improve our site's accessibility. In this session, we will look at the variety of users that can benefit from accessibility affordances (hint: it's not just the vision impaired!), and experience some example sites as they might. Then, using practical examples from retrofitting an application for Section 508 compliance, we will talk about simple ways to plan, execute, and test accessibility strategies.

About Evan Huntley

Evan Huntley

Evan Huntley is a UI/UX Engineer for WebMD. He leads the user interface efforts for a medical simulation web app, from design through to front-end development. After graduating from UNC Wilmington with a degree in Film Studies, he soon saw the opportunity to take what he had learned about audience engagement and storytelling and apply those skills to the web. He's worked in the Triangle for the duration of his career, spending time at a local agency and both Duke and UNC (though he claims allegiance to neither).
